Cuebids of Many Kinds

By:  Robert S. Todd

The modern game continues to create interesting auctions and we need to make sure to discuss how to respond to new situations with partner. Some of the most interesting (and useful) competitive bids are when we use a suit that the opponents have bid – called a Cuebid.  There can be many different meanings for bidding the opponent’s suit.

A cuebid is a tool used in a variety of different ways based on the situation. We vary the meaning to describe the hand that is most logical and often most difficult to describe in another way.

Let’s take a look at cuebids of the opponent’s suit in a variety of different auctions and make sure we are on the same page with partner about the meaning of these calls.

The Weekly

Bridge Quiz!

The aim of this weekly bridge quiz is to help players and their partnerships improve in the "bidding" phase of the game.  Answers will vary, and may differ from our pros' answers, due to the following.

  • the system you and your partner play, such as 2/1, SA, Precision, ACOL, etc.

  • the conventions you choose to learn and include

  • partnership agreements

Knowing this:  read; participate; learn!  Bridge is a game, but one with rules & ethics.  If a problem does occur while playing duplicate bridge at a club, call the director to solve and explain.

Most importantly,  be respectful,  be ethical, and enjoy this wonderful game!

Have fun!

This site was established primarily for the VCC quiz participants in HSV.  It was done with the intention of providing a fun way for bridge players to improve their knowledge of the game and their partnerships.  Items, articles, etc. were pulled from varying websites on the worldwide web and/or received from various bridge players & friends.  Not meaning to promote any books, articles, etc., or not give proper credit to sources,  just trying to provide a convenient page for quiz participants to get information.  Thanks and enjoy!
